Hetman Borscht

This aromatic and hearty borscht is perfect for cold days. Learn how to prepare traditional Hetman borscht using fresh ingredients and step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

  • 500 g pork
  • 2 medium beets
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 onion
  • 3 potatoes
  • 150 g cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Herbs for serving

Preparation

  1. Boil water, add meat, and cook for about 1.5 hours.
  2. While the broth is cooking, prepare the vegetables: grate the beets and carrots, chop the onion and potatoes.
  3. In a skillet, sauté the onion, then add the carrot and beets, and cook until soft.
  4. When the meat is ready, remove it, cut into cubes, and return it to the pot.
  5. Add the prepared vegetables and potatoes, and cook for 20 minutes.
  6. At the end, add the cabbage and tomato paste, and cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and minced garlic.
  8. Before serving, garnish with herbs.
